Obituary

Alfred Wayne "Nicky" O'Neal, "Big O" passed away Thursday, January 9, 2020 in Wichita Falls. A graveside funeral service is planned for 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 13, 2020, at Quanah Memorial Park.  Rev. Wayne Hollinshead and Rev. Monte Lumpkin will officiate. Visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m., Sunday evening, at Smith Funeral Home chapel.

Nicky was born on April 16, 1949 to Frank, Jr. and Essie Mae (Huff) O'Neal. He was a lifetime resident of Quanah, graduating from Quanah High School in 1968. He went on to attend Clarendon College. Nicky was a farmer and rancher, and had retired from Texas Department of Transportation. He enjoyed chuck wagon cooking, leather working, and Red Steagall Cowboy Camps. He also collected wagon memorabilia. He attended worship services at Pease River Cowboy Church.

Survivors include two daughters: Jennifer Edwards of Quanah, and Jill O'Neal Roberts of Wichita Falls; one step son: Bobby Briggs of Keller, Texas; 3 sisters: Bertha Woods and Christie Riley of Quanah, and Kathy Miller of Rosebud, Texas; 4 brothers: Ricky O'Neal, Allen O'Neal, and Jimmy O'Neal of Quanah, and Jody O'Neal of Valliant, Oklahoma; 5 grandsons; and 2 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step daughter, Christi Briggs Ayala; a brother, Cotton O'Neal; and a sister, Patsy Mayfield.
