Carol Ann Hurt Johnson, age 66, passed away on May 9, 2026, surrounded by the love of family and friends. She was born on October 21, 1959, in Quanah, to Charles and Robbie Hurt.

Carol was married to Tom Johnson on June 25, 1983, with whom she shared a life filled with love, laughter, and treasured memories. She was devoted to her family and friends and was known for her caring heart, welcoming spirit, and unwavering support for those around her.

Carol graduated from Abilene Christian University in 1982, an accomplishment she carried with pride throughout her life. Her dedication to education led her to a meaningful and influential career serving students and schools across Texas. Over the years, she taught in Memphis, Quanah, White Deer, and Shallowater. Carol taught English, elementary music, and ESL, inspiring countless students with patience, encouragement, and compassion.

In addition to teaching, Carol served as a school counselor and later as a high school principal, roles in which she became a trusted mentor, leader, and advocate for students and educators alike. Her commitment to education and her ability to connect with people left a lasting impact on every school community she served.

Carol was raised with strong values and a deep appreciation for family, and was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. Carol touched many lives through her generosity and warmth. She enjoyed spending time with loved ones, sharing stories, and creating lasting memories that will be cherished forever.

Carol is survived by her husband of 44 years, Tom Johnson of Quanah, Texas; Son, Jared Johnson and wife, Melissa of Shallowater, Texas; son, Alex Johnson and wife, Kelsie of Shallowater, Texas; grandchildren, Alexa Welch, Lyndi Johnson, Grayson Johnson and a grandson on the way; Nieces, Tori Riley of Quanah, Kendra Martin of Memphis, Texas, and Wacie Decker of Clarendon, Texas; Nephews, Ric Riley and Rob Riley of Quanah, Texas; and Matt Martin of Amarillo, Texas. Mother-in-law, Shirley Johnson of Memphis, Texas; Sister in law, Sherryl Byars and husband, Brad of Giles, TX; many great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family and a host of very dear friends.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Robbie Hurt; her sister, Caren Riley; grandparents Malon and Ella Jane Owens, William Bryan, and Charlie Faye Hurt, an uncle William (Son) Hurt, a brother-in-law Rickie Riley, and her father-in-law, Blackie Johnson.

Carol will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the caring staff at MD Anderson Cancer Center and the dedicated medical professionals in Quanah for their compassion, kindness, and excellent care during this difficult time. A special thank you to Fara Garza for the exceptional care, support, and kindness shown to Carol. Your dedication and compassion will always be remembered and deeply appreciated.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life honoring Carol will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at the First Baptist Church in Quanah, Texas. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a life well lived and to share memories of the joy, kindness, and love Carol brought to so many.
