Obituary

Charles McSpadden, 86 of Quanah, passed away Friday morning, August 20, 2021 in Wichita Falls.  A funeral service is planned for 11:00 am, Wednesday, August 25 th at Pease River Cowboy Church in Goodlett. Rev. Josh Crow and Rev. Wayne Hollinshead will officiate. Interment will follow in Quanah Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Tuesday evening at Smith Funeral Home Chapel.

Charles Glendon McSpadden was born November 4, 1934 in Hardeman County to the late Bob McSpadden and Cora Ray Denton McSpadden. He served in the U.S. Army for 2 years, followed by several years in the Army Reserves. He married Vileta Conklin in 1960 and together they raised 3 sons. Charles was a Barber and owned the City Barber Shop in Groom, Texas before moving back to Quanah in 1974 to take over his father's farming operations. While in Groom, he was a member of the Groom Masonic Lodge, and was a Past Master. He served as Precinct 1 Hardeman County Commissioner from 1980 – 2004. Charles was a member of the Pease River Cowboy Church.

Survivors include 3 sons: Mike McSpadden and wife Allison, of Ft. Worth, Steve McSpadden and wife Janna, of Quanah, Scott McSpadden and wife Sharon, of Holiday; 6 grandchildren, Jonathan McSpadden and wife Bailey, David McSpadden, Mark McSpadden, Christopher McSpadden, Seth McSpadden and wife Paige, Sam McSpadden; 4 great grandchildren, Sophia, Leslie, Kyla, and Jayton.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Vileta, on March 10, 1996; and a brother, Jimmie Tom in 1991.

The family suggests memorials be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls or Pease River Cowboy Church.
