Kerrvilee
Clyde Whitmire, 94, passed away on June 4, 2025, in Kerrville, TX, surrounded by his family. He was born in Kenefic, OK, to Edward T. and Pauline Whitmire on May 14, 1931. He married his sweetheart, Sherry Lynn Whitmire, on July 28, 1956, in Quanah, TX, where they lived for many years and were blessed to welcome their two children, Shonda and Mark. They were happily married for 68 years.
Clyde dearly loved his wife and children, his precious grandchildren, Emily, T.J., and Lacy, son-in-law, Tom, and daughter-in-law, Karen. His dedication to his family was felt and seen by all. He also loved the Lord and faithfully served the church for many years as Sunday School superintendent and usher for the Methodist Church in Quanah.
He spent his early career in the United States Air Force as a radar operator from June 18, 1952, to June 18, 1956. After an honorable discharge from the Air Force, he returned to Quanah and married Sherry a month later.
He worked at Becknell Hardware, then began his career at the United States Department of Agriculture, where he worked for 34 years. In his retirement, he worked at Price Jackson Funeral Home, which later became Smith Funeral Home, sharing his compassionate nature and kind heart with the grieving families of Quanah.
As a young man, he loved to be outdoors, photographing and hiking in nature. He enjoyed making slide shows of his photographs from trips, bow hunting with friends, and filming the Quanah High School football games. He proudly donated 10 gallons of blood to the Red Cross over the years. He was active in the Quanah community and a friend to many.
Later in life, he enjoyed bird and wildlife watching, caring for aging family and friends, and was an avid follower of the daily weather news. He was always quick to laugh, always happy to help, and enjoyed life.
Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, Edward T. and Pauline Whitmire, sisters, Ruby Muncrief & Avie Gardener, brother, Edward T. Whitmire Jr., and his son-in-law, Tom Atkins Jr.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sherry, children, Shonda Atkins, Mark & Karen Whitmire, and grandchildren, Emily Atkins, T.J. Atkins III, and Lacy Atkins, and many treasured family and friends.
