Doug Cox passed away early Thursday morning, September 21, 2023, in Wichita Falls. A graveside service is planned for 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 25th at Goodlett Cemetery. Rev. Dusty Hamby will officiate. Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home Chapel.
Douglas Allen Cox was born July 11, 1952, in Crowell, Texas to the late Deward Allen "Shorty" Cox and Lavine Hollaway Cox. He moved to Quanah in 1970, after his marriage to Vicki Welch. He was the warehouse lead man at Georgia Pacific, retiring from there after 39 years. Prior to working at GP, he worked at J.Q. Jackson Tire Shop. Doug loved to watch his grandsons play baseball. He also enjoyed camping with his family and working on cars.
Survivors include his wife, Vicki Cox, of Quanah; son, Dustin Cox and wife Meloni, of Wichita Falls; daughter, Amanda Duncan, of Quanah; sister, Sharon Tinney and husband Buzz, of Brady, Texas; sisters-in-law, Linda Duncan and Cordie Cunningham, both of Quanah; brother-in-law, Don Braddock, of Memphis, Texas; 2 grandsons, Devin and Connor Cox; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Jeanette Braddock, in 2022.
The family suggests memorials be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls or Quanah Meals on Wheels.
