Obituary

Evelyn R. Phillips, age 96, of Lubbock, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2017, in Lubbock, Texas.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 3, 2017, at Smith Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Larry Holder officiating.  Interment will follow at Quanah Memorial Park, next to her late husband, Jack.

Evelyn was born August 11, 1920 to the late Roy and Bertha Bridge Rogers.  She married Jack Phillips, Jr., on April 4, 1937, and set up homemaking in the Phillips farm, south of Quanah.  Evelyn was the mother of two boys;  Jerry and James "Mickie", and one daughter, Carolyn.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Quanah, and active in the Needle Club, Texas Home Demonstration Clubs, and a leader for 4-H Clubs, both local & state.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Bertha Rogers; husband, Jack Phillips, Jr.; and daughter, Carolyn Cate.

She is survived by 2 sons - Jerry Phillips and wife, Colleen, of Lubbock, Texas; James "Mickie" Phillips and wife, Zoe, of Lubbock, Texas; son-in-law - William Cate, of Haslet, Texas; grandchildren - Kristy Hill and husband, Kent of Murphy, Texas; Jerry "JJ" Phillips and wife, Syndi, of San Antonio, Texas; Caroline Akers of Richardson, Texas; Danielle Blessing and husband, Brad, of Fort Worth, Texas; Jacqueline Buitron and husband, Tito, of Fort Worth, Texas; great grandchildren - Katelyn Hill of Dallas; Abigail Hill of Sherman, Texas; Jill Phillips and Averie Phillips of San Antonio, Texas; Creed and Levi Dildy and Luke Buitron of Fort Worth, Texas. One great, great granddaughter - Kira Hill of Dallas, Texas; a niece, Jan Koci of Richardson, Texas; step-grandchildren - Burton Cate and wife Carolyn; Todd Cate and wife, Raquel, of Syracuse, Utah; Jason Hunter and wife, Stephanie, of Shallowater, Texas; Jill Overly and husband, Richard, of El Paso, Texas; and twelve step-great-grandchildren.

In her honor, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 397, Quanah, Texas 79252.
