Gary Callaway passed away Saturday morning, November 2, 2024, at the age of 70.

Gary Wayne Callaway was born July 20, 1954, in Shreveport, Louisiana to Harold Jackson and Edwina Collins Callaway. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1971 and was stationed in Berlin, Germany.

Survivors include 4 daughters, Shirley Callaway, Shelly Allen, Sherri Finnerty, and Denise Edwards; 1 son, Gary Andrew Callaway; 3 brothers, Dusty Callaway, Jacky Callaway, and Michael Callaway; 2 sisters, Patricia Nation and Cynthia Daniels; 11 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and his special baby girl. Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Tootie Callaway in 2000 from breast cancer; and a grandson, James Finnerty.

Gary expressed his wish for an immediate burial and did not want a traditional funeral service. We honor his request and appreciate your understanding as we fulfill his desire for simplicity and privacy. There will be a register book at Smith Funeral Home for friends and family to sign in acknowledgement of his passing.

The family suggests that any memorials by made to organizations promoting breast cancer awareness.
