Gary Lynn Folmar, of Quanah, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025. He was born on August 17, 1943 in Sweetwater, Texas, the son of the late Elvie and Rachel Folmar. The Folmar family moved to Vernon, Texas in 1948 where Gary, and his sister Janice Folmar Smith, were raised. After graduating high school, Gary joined the military and was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany where he met his first wife, Ingrid Maly. They returned to the states and married in Vernon, Texas where they raised their children Kim and Kevin. He worked and retired from W.B. Dunavant Cotton Co. as a cotton buyer.

Gary married his wife of 24 years, Charlotte Milligan Lytle of Quanah, Texas in June 2001. They moved to Quanah from Vernon in 2011 where he made his home and spent the remainder of his life. Gary is survived by 4 children, 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.  His son, Kevin Folmar, his wife DeEdra and their sons Maverick Folmar, his wife Zoe of Aledo, Texas and Garrett Folmar of Wichita Falls; a daughter Kim Folmar Marshall, her husband David and their two children Rachel and William of Keller, Texas; two step-daughters, Amy Lytle Mora and her husband Angel, their three children, Michael, Gabriel, his fiance Aniston, their daughter Axlyn, and Marisol of Ft. Worth, Texas and Alyse Lytle Rockwell and her husband Eric, their three children, Cooper, Casen, and Lucy of Yukon, Oklahoma. Gary also leaves behind his precious sister and brother-in-law, Janice Folmar Smith and her husband Guinn, of Abilene, Texas.

Throughout his life Gary was known for his quick smile and a knack for making friends wherever he went. He never met a stranger, and if he did, it didn't take more than five minutes before they were swapping stories or sharing a laugh. A true card player in the game of life, Gary believed in taking chances, whether at the domino table, on a football score, or in his extended career as a cotton buyer. Win or lose, he did it with style, humor, and a twinkle in his eye that told you he was already planning his next hand. He could talk his way into, or out of, just about anything, and he had that rare gift of making people feel like the most important person in the room. He carried himself with a kind of effortless confidence, the kind only a real Texan can pull off.

Gary treasured the friendships he created during his life in Vernon and later in Quanah, as well as the friends he made in the cotton business. Those business relationships weren't just about work; they were about trust, laughter, and swapping stories that lasted long after the deals were done. The cotton trade gave him more than a livelihood, it gave him a community he cherished, and those friends became like family.

Gary will be remembered for his smile and generous spirit. In true Gary Folmar fashion, we invite you to celebrate his life the way he lived it: with laughter and lots of heart, and remember that the best hands in life are the ones you play with love, humor, and a little bit of Texas swagger. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Quanah, Texas.
