Gloria Jean Gaines, 76, of Quanah, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home on July 22, 2026.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Polk and Arnie M. (Jackson) Polk, and her sister, Peggy Mae Carter
Throughout her life, Gloria held several occupations, including working as a grocery store manager and at Vernon State Hospital. She also had a background in accounting and data entry and was one of the original volunteers at the Hardeman County Essentials Center.
Above all, Gloria was a loving mother and devoted grandmother. Her family was the most important part of her life. She gave of herself to provide for her children and was always there in the ways that mattered most. Her strength, independence, and love will live on through the family she leaves behind.
She is survived by her brother, Steve Polk; her three children, Michael Mergerson, Roderick Mergerson, and Demeitra Mergerson; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews who truly loved her and will cherish her memory.
In keeping with Gloria’s wishes, her family honored her desire for a quiet passing, and no services were held. Her family will remember her in their own quiet way, holding close the love, memories, and moments they shared with her.
Gloria will be deeply missed and forever loved by the family she cherished so dearly.
May she rest peacefully.
