Obituary

Helen Ruth McKay passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family. Born Helen Ruth Haseloff to Louis and Elvera Haseloff, Helen lived a life rooted in faith, family, and devotion to those she loved most.

Helen married her high school sweetheart, Douglas McKay, on May 26, 1956. Together they built a loving home and shared nearly 50 wonderful years of marriage before Douglas’s passing in 2005. Their marriage was a lasting example of loyalty, partnership, and enduring love.

She was a devoted mother to Susan Edmonds and husband Bobby of Lockett; Terri Ingram and husband Ronald of Quanah; and Steven McKay and wife Rebecca of Spearman. She was a proud grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Susan, great-granddaughter Sierra, and several other friends and loved ones.

Faith was the foundation of Helen’s life. She cherished her church family and was the last surviving member of Peace Lutheran Church in Vernon, Texas, before its closing. She later became a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church, where her kindness and steady faith continued to touch others.

Helen found great joy in cheering on her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in sports and activities, rarely missing a chance to support them from the stands. Whether at a ballgame, school event, or family gathering, she was happiest surrounded by those she loved.

She also treasured life’s simple pleasures — visits with family, time with her beloved cat Snooks, and enjoying Bevo’s famous onion rings.

Helen will be remembered for her gentle spirit, unwavering faith, deep love for family, and the warmth she brought to everyone around her. Her legacy lives on through the generations she loved so dearly.
