Helen Barnett Tucker went home to be with Jesus on May 24, 2023. She was born in Chillicothe on April 13, 1927 to O.W. and Altha Stegall Barnett who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were an infant sister, Betty Sue; sister Billie Barnett Collom; brothers, Murray and Jack Barnett. She married Goldwyn Geral Tucker on August 6, 1948 at King High. He preceded her in death in 1966.
Helen is survived by brothers Earl (Dock), Ronald (Buddy) and Rookie Barnett; a daughter Patsy Dowty, two sons, Ray and wife Donna , Lee and wife Judy.
She has nine grandchildren; Chris and wife Sandy, Cody and wife Kendra, Kelly and wife Pauline, Amber and husband Bill, Jason and wife Cynthia, Karen and husband Josiah. Her family remembers her attention grabbing, one sentence sermons.
Her great grandchildren are Carson, Justus, Clayton, Cade, Lexi, Whitney, Cryslan, Chase, Cooper, Emmett, Garrett and Madeline Brook.
Helen was saved at Prairie View Baptist Church where she also drove some of her brothers to services. She began working with GAs in the early fifties at First Baptist Church in Chillicothe. She continued teaching Mission Friends, Preschool Sunday School classes and the Nursery until she was 88. In the late seventies Helen kept open the Eagles Nest Canteen, picking up some teens and cooking for all who came.
Helen began her working career at a local doctor's office, then Chillicothe Hospital. At the hospital she worked in surgery, on the hall, in purchasing, and finished as an X-ray tech and substitute Lab tech. After retirement she worked at the Post Office and L&M grocery.
Our family would like to thank the nurses and CNAs from Hospice of Wichita Falls for their knowledgeable, enthusiastic care; Sydney, Kami, and Adrian; Carli, Juanita, and Christy. Those who cared for her at home gave treatment the same as they would have their own families; Thank you Sandy and Edna.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday May 30, 2023 at 2:00pm at the First Baptist Church in Chillicothe with Rev. Clay Carter and Chris Tucker officiating. Burial will follow at the Chillicothe Cemetery under the direction of Smith Chapel/Sullivan Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held Monday May 29, 2023 from 6-8 pm at the Smith Chapel in Chillicothe, Texas.
Memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church of Chillicothe or the Hospice of Wichita Falls, Vernon Location.
