Obituary

James Olen Dickerson, 79, formerly of Quanah, died April 21, 2019, in Childress.

James was born May 21, 1939 to Roy and Beulah Gasway (Blythe) Dickerson, in Quanah.   His father died when he was six years old. His mother later remarried, and he was blessed with two siblings. He graduated from Quanah High School in 1960. He was married to Glenda Davis in 1960, and they had three children. James loved his children and tried hard to be a good father. He was later married to Carol Curtis.

James was a member of the Church of Christ and rarely missed church. James worked in retail as a salesman. He really enjoyed working, and started working at a very young age. One of his early jobs was caddying at the golf course. He would often walk the several miles to the golf course. After working all day, he would stop at the store and buy a can of pork and beans for ten cents. He was always good to his brother and sister and shared his caddy wage with them. He loved his brother and sister, and they loved him. James liked to play golf, and once made a hole in one. He enjoyed traveling and made friends easily. He was a resident of the Childress Nursing Home, and enjoyed friendships with the other residents and staff. He had been crowned the 2019 Valentines Day King.

James is survived by 2 sons, John Dickerson of Austin, and James Dickerson, Jr. of Quanah; 1 daughter, Glyndia Keiser of Amarillo; 1 sister, Lois Edwards, of Quanah; 1 sister-in-law, Sylvia Blythe, of Childress; and many nieces and nephews.
