Jeanette Cook Ramey, 90, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2019.

A funeral service is planned for 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 25 ^th at the First Baptist Church in Quanah. Rev. David Smith will officiate. Interment will follow at Quanah Memorial Park under direction of Smith Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., Thursday evening, at the funeral home.

Jeanette was born on October 21, 1928 in Hardeman County, north of Goodlett, to Ben and Letha (Francis) Cook. She was a 1946 graduate of Chillicothe High School.

She graduated from Hardin Simmons in 1951 and attended Texas Tech University where she obtained a Master's degree in English with a minor in History.

After graduation, Jeanette taught English in small town Texas, impacting young lives in Barstow, Quanah, Sunray and Plainview.

She met Peyton Ramey while teaching in Plainview and they married on July 25, 1966. After a brief time in the Texico New Mexico/Farwell, Texas area, Jeanette and Peyton moved to Hereford where they raised their two children. While in Hereford, Jeanette was an active member of the First Baptist Church, the Genealogical Society, Merry Mixers, and Community Concerts Program, among others.

In 1995, Jeanette and Peyton relocated to Quanah where Jeanette was a member of the First Baptist Church, 1904 Club, Vernon Travelers Square Dance, and Retired Teachers Association. She was a Master Gardener, and a past member of the Quanah Library Board.

She was passionate about reading, travel, and spending time with her family. She felt fortunate to have been able to travel to Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Alaska, and many of the National Parks and Monuments after retirement.

Survivors include her husband, Peyton Ramey of Quanah; a daughter, Katie Ramey of Dallas; a son Donald Ramey, and wife, Kim of Dillon, Colorado; grandsons, Donovan and Mason Ramey; and granddaughter, Peyton Ramey.

The family suggests that memorials be made to the Thompson Sawyer Public Library.
