Obituary

Jerry Dell Tyler passed away Sunday, May 17, 2026, in Childress. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 20th at Goodlett Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday evening at Smith Funeral Home Chapel.

Jerry was a devoted husband, loving father, proud papa, and one of the hardest working men anyone could ever know. He spent his life putting his family first and teaching by example the importance of honesty, perseverance, and dedication. Whether he was working long hours, lending a helping hand, or sharing stories around a campfire, Jerry carried himself with quiet strength, kindness, and integrity.

He found his greatest joy in providing for his family and spending time with the people he loved most. Jerry especially treasured his grandchildren and never passed up an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. His steady presence, wisdom, and rock-solid advice will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Jerry worked for Hardeman County as a foreman for 33½ years, where he earned the respect of coworkers and friends through his strong work ethic and dependable nature. After retirement, he enjoyed farming as a hobby and continued doing what he loved most — working the land and staying busy.

Survivors include his children, Christy and Robert Howard of Lubbock, Sara Hinsley, and Bobby and Veronica Tyler of Quanah; grandchildren, Madison of Wichita Falls, Makenzie of Quanah, Makayla of Oklahoma City, Robert of Quanah, Owen and Evan of Lubbock; brothers, Johnny and Kelly Tyler of Quanah; and sister, Karen Branch of Electra.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Mary Ann Tyler; his parents, J.D. and Jessie Mae Tyler; his brother, Kenneth Tyler; and his sister, Dianne Edmondson.
