John Wayne Ashcraft, 77, of Quanah, Texas, passed away on Wednesday morning, February 5, 2025, in Vernon, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 11, at Pease River Cowboy Church in Goodlett, with interment to follow at Goodlett Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home.
Johnny was born on April 13, 1947, in Quanah, Texas, to James and Opal (Hulsey) Ashcraft. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy for four years and was discharged from the Naval Reserve in 1987. He married Kathy Lemon in 1970, and they raised their family in Quanah. He dedicated 36 years of his career to Georgia Pacific, where he retired as a maintenance manager.
Johnny deeply loved his family and his beloved dog, Rooster. He enjoyed playing dominoes and spending time with those he cherished.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Ashcraft of Quanah; son, Matt Ashcraft and Shyla of Chillicothe, Texas; daughter, Amanda Ross and Corey of Beaumont, Texas; grandchildren, Heather Ruiz and Chris of Lubbock, Tyson Marsh and Erin of Quanah, Beverly Marsh of Chillicothe, Corbin Ashcraft and Jasye of Amarillo, Carson Ashcraft and Ariana of Quanah, Jaron Marsh of Colorado Springs, Kendi Ashcraft of Amarillo, and Kagen Welch and Jacoby Johnson of Chillicothe; 11 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way; four great-great-grandchildren; and his sister, Dixie Goodrum of Missouri.
John was preceded in death by his parents, James and Opal Ashcraft; two brothers, James Ashcraft and Robert Ashcraft; and two sisters, Marjene Thatcher and Victoria Terry.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to the American Red Cross.
