John Elder, 79, formerly of Quanah, passed away Thursday, October 29 ^th in Vernon.  A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 4 ^th at Quanah Memorial Park.  Rev. Tommy Elder will officiate. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at Smith Funeral Home Chapel.

John Wesley Elder was born January 6, 1941 in Quanah, Texas.  He married Peggy Sue Lorance. She preceded him in death in 2014. John was employed by the City of Quanah for over 20 years as Public Works Director.

John is survived by his daughter in law, Crystal Watkins of Vernon; and 2 grandsons, John Elder and Tommy Elder, Jr. He was preceded in death by two sons, Timothy John Elder in 1966, and Tommy Ray Elder in 2002.

The family suggests memorials be sent to the Alzheimers Foundation.
