Johnny "Cotton" Davis passed away Monday, August 1, 2022 in Burkburnett, Texas. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 5 ^th at Smith Funeral Home Chapel, with interment to follow at Quanah Memorial Park. Visitation with family will be held Thursday evening, 6-7 p.m., at Smith Funeral Home.

Johnny Jerald Davis was born March 4, 1938 in Caney, Oklahoma, to Newton Ray and Mary Verda (Peck) Davis. He played basketball at Cameron and East Central, and retired teaching and coaching after a 32 year career. He was married for 26 years to his first wife, Vyvyan Davis, before marrying Charlotte Sue Womack in 1992. Cotton never met a stranger and enjoyed helping everybody. He loved playing dominos, canasta, and other card games. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Grandfield.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Davis of Grandfield; daughter, Gayla Howe of Wichita Falls; son, Morris Davis, and wife Cindy, of Seymour; step-children, Lyn Freeman of Poolville, Texas, and Sharla Hellen of Harrison, Arkansas; grandchildren, Joshua Ray Davis, Charles Aaron Davis, Rachel Nicole Davis, Allison Morgan, Kassidy Mason, Todd Rudisill, Hank Hellen, and Savannah Hellen; 4 great grandchildren, Sumerlin, Jentri, Khloie, Cooper, and one on the way; one sister, Betty Lou Martin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Gayla Mason; step-son Rick McClendon; 3 sisters, Mary Lucille George, Juanita Faye Holocker, and Sharon Ruth Lamb; 2 brothers, Billy Ray Davis, and James Leon Davis.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Kidney Foundation of Texas.
