JW Sollis, 92, of Vernon, Texas, passed away on Friday July 6, 2018, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He had been a resident of Eagle Flats Village in Vernon.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 12, 2018 from 2:00-3:30 pm at Womack-Manard Funeral Home, 107 E Marietta St, in Crowell, Texas.

JW was born in Crowell, Texas on March 12, 1926 to Cecil Sollis and Roberta Laudsdown Sollis. He served in the US Navy during World War II, and then married Valeria May Owens on Nov. 28, 1947.   He was a teacher, coach and school administrator in various schools in Texas and flew planes for Snow Aeronautical in Olney, Texas.

After he retired from school business, JW moved to Crowell and became involved with the Crowell Chamber of Commerce. The Crowell public library project was very important to him, and he helped to complete it.  Later, he was on the board for the Three Rivers Foundation and worked to enhance the area's fine arts and science programs.  JW loved Western Swing music and coordinated several music programs in the Crowell, Quanah, and Oklahoma areas, as well as promoted the music camp for all ages at the Bowen Ranch, then at the Circle Bar Ranch.

JW is survived by his son, John and wife, Vicky Sollis of Lubbock, TX, and son, Wendell and wife, Dustee Sollis of Petersburg, TX; 4 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his sister, Frieda Sollis Huckaby, and brother, Hugh Sollis, and brother, Murphy Sollis, and grandson, Lance Sollis.
