Obituary

Kale Dwayne Akers, 23, died Sunday, February 19, 2017, in Hardeman County, Texas.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 23 rd , from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home, in Quanah.  Services will be held at 2:00 p.m.,  Friday, February, 24 th , 2017, at the Rodeo Arena, in Quanah, Texas.  Officiating will be Rev. Wayne Hollinshead.  Interment will follow at Wilbarger Memorial Park, in Vernon, Texas, under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.

Kale was born May 23, 1993 in Altus, Oklahoma, to John Dwayne Akers and Rachelle Dawn McVicker. He was never married and lived all of his life in Quanah and Vernon.  He was a Service Technician with Eco-Drip Sub-Surface Drip Irrigation, and a member of the Church of Christ.  Kale enjoyed rodeoing, working, fishing and hanging out with his friends and family.

He is survived by his parents – John and Debbie Akers, of Quanah, and Rachelle and Kevin Holland, of Vernon; a sister, Johna Akers of Vernon; grandparents – Johnny Akers and Suzanne, of Quanah, and Carla and Tommy Robertson, of Weatherford, Texas; Vernon and Margie McVicker of Garland, Texas; and Ronnie and LouAnn Holland of Vernon; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded by his grandmother, Sherri Coppage.

Memorials may be made to Vernon Boys & Girls Club, Hardeman County 4-H, or Turner Child Development Center.   A scholarship fund, in Kale's name, will be started at Pilgrim Bank in Vernon, Texas.
