Laura Lynn Wyman was born September 30, 1941, and passed away peacefully on May 23, 2023, in Vernon, Texas where she resided. She was the daughter of Charles (Goon) Wyman and Jeanette Godbold Wyman, both lifetime residents of Quanah, Texas. Both sets of her grandparents (W.B Godbold and Dess Thomas Godbold, and Charles Samuel Wyman and Hope Newton Wyman) were pioneer families in the Quanah area.  Laura was proud of her heritage and came from "strong stock".

She attended Quanah High School and graduated in 1960. She was President of National Honor Society, a member of the Spanish Club, Mu Alpha Theta (math organization), and Pep Club. She played both basketball and tennis for the Indians.

Laura attended college at Baylor University, Texas Tech University and Midwestern University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.A in History and a minor in English and Education. She was a Senior Senator in the Midwestern Government Association, a Justice of the Student Supreme Court, and a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority.

Laura went on to receive her M.A. in History from Midwestern. She attended graduate school at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, where she was a Teaching Associate, a Louise Pound Scholar and Phi Alpha Theta member. She taught U.S. History at Midwestern, UN-Lincoln and at the College of St. Mary, Omaha, Nebraska.

She was a founding faculty member of Vernon Regional Junior College and taught History there for 30 years. Laura served as a Division Chairperson and Department Chairperson. She was President of the Faculty Forum at various times for seven terms. She was a member or chairperson of all three permanent committees at the state level of the Texas Junior College Teachers Association and also served as State Treasurer. She was a member of the American Historical Association, the Organization of American Historians, the Western History Association and the Southwestern Historical Association.

Laura was named Notable Woman of Texas in 1985. She traveled extensively and visited most of Western Europe. She studied Bronze Age Archeology in Greece with the University of California - Berkeley. She studied the education systems of China in the 1970's. She went on photo safari in Africa in the 1980's. She also studied Maya Culture in Mexico and Guatemala.

Laura was a lifetime learner and historian. She loved and studied history throughout her whole life. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, photography and tennis. Her sanctuary was anywhere outside in nature.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Anita Wyman Dudenhoeffer, aunt and uncle Marie Godbold Bond and Happy (T.L.) Bond and uncle W.B. (Son) Godbold, Jr.  She is survived by her nephew David Worth Dudenhoeffer of Grandfield, Oklahoma, and his girlfriend, Julie Coles of Wichita Falls, Texas, niece DeLynn Dudenhoeffer and nephew William Chris Osborne both of Longmont, Colorado, and her brother-in-law Philip Dudenhoeffer of Grandfield, Oklahoma.
