Laverne Fern Dowlen, formerly of Quanah, died Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at her home in Lubbock. She was 82.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 13, 2018, at Smith Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Quanah Memorial Park, under direction of Smith Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday.
Laverne was born on March 22, 1936, in Kirkland, Texas, to Robert Elmer and Rosa Lee (McCain) Carroll. She was a graduate of Quanah High School. She was married to Dave Dowlen, in 1964, in Altus, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death in 1995. Laverne was an aide at Hardeman County Memorial Hospital for over 20 years. She was also a waitress at Red's Drive In for more than 20 years. She was a longtime resident of Quanah, and a member of the First United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Darla, and husband, Mark Stewart, of Lubbock; grandson, Aaron, and wife, Elizabeth Stewart, of Lubbock; granddaughter, Heather, and husband, Kyle Watson, of Canyon, Texas; 6 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Betty Mullins of Dublin, Texas; 2 brothers, Bobby Carroll, of Goodlett, and Earl Carroll, of Killeen.
Her son, Eddie Wright, preceded her in death in January, 2018.
The family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of Lubbock, 3702 21 st St., Lubbock, Texas, 79410.
