L.O. Whitfield Jr. passed away on July 23, 2022, in Arlington, Texas at the age of 93. L.O. was born in Victoria, Texas to L.O. Whitfield Sr. and Mae Pearl Whitfield.  He moved to Quanah when he was 5 years old.  He graduated from Quanah High School in 1946. He attended Hardin College, which is now Midwestern State University.  He joined the U.S. Army in 1951, serving in the Korean Conflict.  He spent the war in Okinawa running the military transportation for the island.

In 1958 he married the love of his life Betty J. Mansel.  L.O. and Betty were married for 57 years before she passed away in 2016.

L.O., along with Bill Burch and Johnnie Antes, started Greenbelt Electric and Refrigeration Company in 1963.  He and Betty worked side by side for 56 years of business.  L.O. worked on most of the homes, businesses, schools, churches, and government buildings in Hardeman and the surrounding counties.

L.O. was a Master Mason of the Quanah Masonic Lodge.  Additionally, he was past president of the Quanah Junior Chamber of Commerce, a former member of the Quanah Country Club and served as President of the Quanah Hospital Board for many years.  He was member of the First Baptist Church. He was an avid golfer and quail hunter.

L.O. is survived by his children: Debbie Higdon of Mt. Washington, Kentucky, Dawn Coffman and spouse Danny of Denton, Texas, and David Whitfield and spouse Michael of Grand Prairie, Texas. L.O. Is also survived by seven grandchildren: Bethany Immerso, Chasson Higdon, Tiffany Rivers, Heath Coffman, Bryan Coffman, Gabrielle Whitfield-Fleming and Maya Whitfield-Fleming.  He had 8 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, 2 brothers, and son Jimmy.

L.O. loved the town and people of Quanah.  He took great pride in his business and doing work for all his customers in Quanah and the surrounding area.  Most of Quanah can thank him for keeping the lights on, staying warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

Graveside services will be held on September 23, 2022, at 1:00 pm.
