Ellis Devoll, 92, passed away Thursday, February 3, 2022 in Childress. A private family gathering and graveside service will be held at Quanah Memorial Park.
Loy Ellis Devoll was born November 27, 1929 in Quanah to the late Claude Henry Devoll and Sarah "Sallie" Jane McNutt Devoll. He married Beulah Mae Cullar on April 10, 1949, and together they raised 3 daughters: Phyllis, Patricia, and Janice. He started work at the T & O Grocery Store. Following that, he became a butcher at Preston's IGA Grocery Store. He briefly moved his family to Clovis, New Mexico, where he managed a convenience store for his brother, Ray. After returning to Quanah, he owned an Oak Farms Dairy Distributorship. He delivered dairy products to grocery stores, schools, hospitals, nursing homes and restaurants in Quanah, Crowell, and Childress. His hobby was farming, raising wheat and cattle; and making decorative wood items. Ellis was a faithful longtime member of the Church of Christ in Quanah.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Phyllis Tapp of Wichita Falls, and Patricia Devoll of Childress; 2 sisters, Darlene Ely and Pat Allen, of Lewisville, Texas, 1 brother, Ray Devoll, and wife Wilma of Grapevine, Texas; four grandchildren, Alisha Williams, and husband Terry of Childress, Billy Smith, and wife Amber of Kirkland, Marcus Smith, and wife Joycelyn of Goodlett, and Connie Tapp of Wichita Falls; and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Zona, in 2022; a daughter, Janice Morton; three brothers, Jess, Elvis, and Alquien "Al" Devoll.
