Margaret Whitmire passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, December 9, 2025, in Vernon, Texas.

A graveside service celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 12, 2025, at Quanah Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service at Smith Funeral Home.

Margaret Francis Wheat was born on December 3, 1937, in Quanah to Henry Ray Wheat and Mattie Isaacks Wheat, who raised her with the values she carried throughout her lifetime. On August 13, 1955, she married James Arlis Whitmire, and together they built a home filled with love and purpose. A lifelong resident of Quanah, Margaret devoted her days to raising their three children and serving her community.

Margaret's creativity and warm spirit shone through in everything she touched. She owned and operated both a flower shop and a bakery, sharing beauty, comfort, and sweetness with friends, neighbors, and countless families over the years. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church and lived her faith quietly, always offering kindness and a gentle word.

She leaves behind her children, Debbie Denham of Quanah, Alan Whitmire and wife Teresa of Quanah, and Dean Whitmire of Wichita Falls.

Her legacy continues through her grandchildren — Adam Whitmire, Nicole Bergstrom, Eric Denham, Kelly Whitmire, Carly Whitmire, and Micah Leann Cates — and her great-grandchildren — Austin, Lukas, Parker Rose, Clayton, Ethan, Maddie, Owen, Parker, Casey, Mackenzie, Cooper and Noah.

Margaret is reunited with her husband Arlis, who passed in 2016; her parents; her son-in-law Dennis Denham; daughter-in-law Ann Marie Whitmire; grandson Bryan Denham; brother Billy Wheat; sister Louise Stuart; and great-grandson Logan Denham.

The family suggests memorials be made to Beyond Faith Hospice, whose care and compassion meant so much during her final days.
