Obituary

Randy Akers passed away Sunday evening, December 4, 2022 in Crowell.  A funeral service is planned for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 7,2022 at First United Methodist Church in Quanah. Interment will follow at Quanah Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 5-7, Tuesday, December 6 th at Smith Funeral Home

Randy Lee Akers was born February 8, 1935 in Acme, Texas to William O. and Martha D. (Hamilton) Akers. He graduated from Quanah High School in 1954. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1957 and served in the 1 st Infantry Division. He was briefly employed with Q. A. & P. Railroad before opening Akers Body Shop in 1960. He owned and operated the body shop until 1992. Randy was elected Hardeman County Sheriff in 1992 and served the citizens in that capacity for 16 years. Randy continued working part time at Smith Funeral Home until 2019.  Randy married Sandra Sue Donathan Walser on March 31, 1977.  She preceded him in death on September 1, 2021. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church; past President of Quanah Country Club; Men's Golf Association; served as Quanah Mayor; was past Worshipful Master of the Quanah Masonic Lodge; and retired from the Quanah Volunteer Fire Department.

Survivors include his daughter, Randa Betts and husband Todd of Olney; daughter, Jana Walser of Quanah; son, Dorman Walser and wife Debra of Wichita Falls; son, Brian Walser and wife Diane of Wichita Falls; 2 brothers, Rex Akers and wife Brooke of Colleyville, and Danny Akers and wife Jeri of Lubbock; 10 grandchildren, Ashlynn Rueztel, Keith Walser (Kelli), Jay D. Ray (Amanda), Alesha Matthews (John), Kent Walser, Lauren Walser, Kade Betts (Alyssa), Jordan Roland, Halli Mankins (Reed), Matthew Roland.; and numerous great grandchildren.  Randy was preceded in death by granddaughter, Krissa Walser; and 2 great granddaughters, Leighton and Landrie Mankins.

The family suggests memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 397, Quanah, Texas 79252.
