Sterling Roddy Clark, Sr. passed away on Tuesday evening, February 21, 2023, in Crowell. A funeral service is planned for 2:00 p.m., Monday, graveside, at Chillicothe Cemetery.
Sterling was born to Bill and Gert Clark on July 2, 1928, in Chillicothe, Texas. He graduated from Chillicothe High School. He was a resident of Quanah for many years and was a foreman at Georgia Pacific for 37 years before retiring. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He loved to hunt and fish and was famous for his large, beautiful vegetable garden. He married Gwen Sills on August 28 th , 1949, in Chillicothe. His joy in life was his family. He loved taking his grandkids hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed making them things and watching them participate in sports and stock shows. He was very active in the American Cancer Society and the Quanah Jaycees.
Sterling was preceded in death by Gwendolyn, his wife of 72 years; his daughter, Barbara Gilliam; his daughter-in-law, Stephanie Clark; his four brothers Sidney, Wayne, Bill Ray, and Gerald; sisters, JoAnn, Doris Nell, and Lorrane Mayer. Survivors include his son, Sterling Roddy Clark, Jr. of Chillicothe; son-in-law, Teddy Gilliam of Quanah; Grandchildren, Brandy Mettes (Rob) of Red Lodge, Montana, James Clark of Amarillo, Justin Gilliam (Sallie) of Quanah, Joe Gilliam (Cari) of Princeton, Texas, Garrett Gilliam (Whitney) of Dalhart, Texas, Kati Sherman (Ben) of Quanah, Kyle Gilliam (Elissa) of Washington DC; and 14 great grandchildren.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Hardeman County 4-H or the American Cancer Society.
