Obituary

Susan Marie Donahoe Mercer, a radiant soul and beloved matriarch, passed away on July 1, 2026, in Quitaque, Texas. A memorial service will honor her life at 1:00 p.m., Monday, July 13, 2026, at the First Christian Church in Quanah, preceded by a visitation from 6-8 p.m., Sunday, July 12.

Born on July 16, 1966, in Houston, Texas, Susan was the daughter of Edward Travis Lloyd and Rose Marie Curcuruto. She was united in love with Brandon Mercer, marrying on June 7, 2015, in Weatherford, Texas.

Susan’s vibrant spirit shone early as a member of the flag corps and a clarinet player in the marching band at Lee High School in San Antonio. As a devoted member of First Christian Church in Quanah, Susan lovingly managed the church’s social media and nurtured Brandon’s work with her meticulous proofreading of his sermons and newsletter articles. Her heart found joy in homemaking – she enjoyed cooking and baking and doing her best to make her family happy and comfortable. Making home improvements and decorating was a special interest for Susan. She delighted in simple pleasures—day trips and overnight stays, oriental dining, and playing chicken foot with friends and family, as well as Barbies with the girls.

Her professional life included roles as the PEIMS Coordinator at QISD, executive assistant for Twisted X Boots and Manna Tech, and was a pioneer in founding Hope Academy homeschool co-op. She also served as secretary of the Shilo County Cemetery Association in Comanche county.

Her passion and devotion to her husband, children, and grand babies was only second to her desire to grow in Jesus Christ. Susan was a beacon of joy and warmth, dispelling darkness with her light. She embodied great care and compassion for all.

Susan’s legacy lives on through her husband Pastor Brandon Mercer of Quanah; 3 sons, Connor Teague Donahoe and Alissa of Cresson, Texas, Trevor Pierce Donahoe and Ilsa of Burleson, Texas, and Joshua Aaron Mercer of Tolar, Texas; 3 grandchildren. Rose Marie, Sadie Faith, and Isaiah Teague Donahoe; her father, Ed Lloyd and Debra of Lubbock, Texas, one brother, John David “JD” Lloyd of Aledo, Texas.

In memory of Susan’s compassionate spirit, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75231 or the Center for Emotional Wellness, 1602 W. Business 380, Decatur, Texas 76234.
