Obituary

Vernon Ellis, 96, of Quanah, passed away Wednesday morning, March 10, 2021 in Crowell.  A graveside service is planned for 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 15, 2021 at Quanah Memorial Park.  Rev. Frank Anguiano and Rev. Monte Lumpkin will officiate. Visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m., Sunday evening at Smith Funeral Home.

Vernon Louis Ellis was born December 7, 1924 in Acme, Texas to Harvey and Ruby Burke Ellis. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Ocean. Vernon married Bettye Tawwater on March 4, 1946 and together they raised two children. Vernon was the owner and operator of Ace Garage for over 50 years, and was a lifelong resident of Quanah. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Bettina Wade of Quanah; a son, Greg and Beverlie Ellis of Vernon; 3 grandsons, Jim Wade of Nome, Alaska, Randy and Stacey Wade of Lubbock, and Colter and Carley Ellis of Wichita Falls; a great granddaughter, Dixie Ellis; and one sister, Geneva Wade of Elkins Lake, Texas.

He was preceded by his wife, Bettye Ellis in February 24, 2020; 2 brothers, Wilburn and Perry Ellis; and a son-in-law, Blackie Wade.
